Kerr Canning Introduces Wide Mouth Canning Jar
Kerr Canning is known for it’s introduction of the wide mouth canning jar.
Started as the Hermetic Fruit Jar Company by Alexander H. Kerr, it’s first products were the Economy (wide mouthed jar) and Self Sealing jars.
Mr. Kerr later invented a newer version of his composition gasket, so that when the lid sealed on the top of a mason jar, a threaded metal ring held it down during the heat process.

German Made Weck Canning Jars
One of two European glass jar manufactures, the J. WECK Company was founded in Oflingen Germany in the beginning of last century.
They started in the business with a home canning technique using glass jars. The company has continued to be a pioneer the glass jarring method, which has become very popular in many parts of the world.

Ball – The Definitive Glass Canning Jar
We all know about Ball Canning Jars. They are the definitive glass canning jar. The original company, started by the Ball Brothers evolved from a small can company in buffalo NY to a large corporate conglomerate with revenues over $7.63 billion dollars annually. They had two products – Canning and Aerospace – go figure.
The latest incarnation, Ball Corporation, no longer actually produces glass canning jars, but the license to produce the jar is now is owned by Jarden Home Brands, and are still available for purchase.
